How To Support Veterans During the Holidays

The holiday season is a great time to give back to those in your community who help keep our nation free. There are many ways that you can show your gratitude to our service members through donations and volunteering. Here is how to support veterans during the holidays.

Adopt a Military Family

Symbolically adopting a military family is a great way to show appreciation for the sacrifice that the entire family is making. It is estimated that as many as 20 percent of veteran families are living paycheck to paycheck, so helping contribute to gifts for their children is a great way to honor the men and women in uniform.

You can also “adopt” a veteran through one of the programs aimed at preventing depression and feelings of isolation that are common in soldiers. Spending time with them and letting the veteran know how much you appreciate everything that they have sacrificed can be just the thing to help them keep moving forward in their post-military life.

Volunteer at Veterans Charities

Another way to show support for veterans is to volunteer with charities and organizations that offer services to vets. Many of these groups aim to prevent or assist veterans facing homelessness, unemployment, and mental health struggles. Check with local organizations in your neighborhood to see what you can do to lend a hand this holiday season.

Make a Donation

Finally, there are many ways that you can make a donation to help our service members. Frequent-flyer miles and credit card points are often transferable to help veterans see their families during the holiday. Many shelters also accept monetary contributions earmarked for veteran services. Other donatable goods include clothing, furniture, household items, and toys for their children. Anything that can be donated will help make the lives of our military veterans better.

With so many ways to support veterans during the holidays, we are proud of the strides being taken to protect our veterans. At Next Gen Diesel, we know firsthand the struggles faced by America’s military heroes. Started by a Marine Corp vet, we are proud to offer the finest aftermarket transmissions on the market, including the Revmax 48RE and many other transmission parts for light-duty diesel trucks.
